In 1987, a quirky trend took off among orcas in Puget Sound, where they playfully wore dead salmon on their heads, and it briefly resurfaced when a male orca, J27 (also known as Blackberry), was spotted sporting a salmon hat again in 2023. While this odd behavior generated excitement, experts believe it's just a fun, playful moment rather than a long-lasting trend. The orcas, particularly in the Southern Resident clan, may wear the fish on their heads either as a social bonding activity or to share the food with other pod members. The salmon-wearing fad appears to come and go, with no signs of it becoming a lasting tradition 🐋.

How fun is that? 😄 Orcas wearing salmon on their heads as a playful trend is just too cute! It’s interesting how this quirky behavior popped up again with J27 (Blackberry) in 2023. While it’s not something that’s here to stay, it’s nice to think that these orcas are just bonding and having a little fun together. Nature sure has its funny moments! 🐟🐋

This is both fascinating and adorable! It’s amazing how even animals can have quirky behaviors that feel almost like trends. I wonder if it’s a way for the orcas to show off or just their version of having fun. Nature always finds a way to surprise us!
