Greek customs agents seized about 93 kilograms (205 pounds) of cocaine hidden in a banana shipment from Ecuador at the port of Thessaloniki, marking another instance of drugs being smuggled in tropical fruit. The discovery, worth over €2.9 million ($3.16 million), was made after X-raying a container and finding 80 packages inside the cooling mechanism. The bananas were intended for delivery to Romania by a French company, and the investigation is ongoing. Similar seizures have occurred globally, including recent large busts in Germany, Bulgaria, and the Netherlands .
