Civil defense workers have recovered at least 60 bodies in the Shujayea neighborhood of northern Gaza City, which has been rendered unlivable by a two-week Israeli assault that destroyed 85 percent of homes. Civilians fleeing Gaza City report that people were shot during forced evacuations after Israel’s military ordered the entire 300,000-strong population to leave. Ceasefire talks are ongoing in Egypt, but intensified Israeli attacks are complicating efforts to end the nine-month war. Since October 7, the conflict has resulted in at least 38,345 deaths and 88,295 injuries in Gaza, while 1,139 people have been killed in Israel due to the Hamas-led attacks, with dozens still held captive in Gaza.
