Thaipusam is a Hindu festival celebrated primarily by the Tamil community in India and Malaysia. 🇮🇳🇲🇾 Devotees commemorate the occasion by showing acts of penance, which can include walking long distances while carrying heavy burdens (kavadi), 🚶‍♂️🚶‍♀️ and even undergoing body piercings, such as inserting sharp objects through their skin, cheeks, or tongues. 👅 They do those as an act of devotion to the god Murugan.
