Thaipusam is a Hindu festival celebrated primarily by the Tamil community in India and Malaysia.
Devotees commemorate the occasion by showing acts of penance, which can include walking long distances while carrying heavy burdens (kavadi),
and even undergoing body piercings, such as inserting sharp objects through their skin, cheeks, or tongues.
They do those as an act of devotion to the god Murugan.
