In total, overall and general dietary trends are quite still high, however, it is reasonable to state that the number of people in the United States with an unhealthy diet has been decreasing within the past 20 years. The magazine involved is the Annals of Internal Medicine and the university in Massachusetts which conducted the research is Tufts University.

The statistic indicated that the prevalence of pass-oriented diets that included low fruits and vegetables, whole grains coupled with high processed meats, saturated fat, and sodium among adults reduced from 48. 8% in 1999 to 36. 2% in 2020. Coincide with this, intermediate diet rose from 50 percent to 61 percent and the number of people with an ideal diet rose slightly from 0. 66% to 1. 58%.

The continuity of dietary intake was evaluated as a poor, intermediate or ideal using the American Heart Association’s 2020 continuous diet score which measures diets based on the healthy diets and the availability of scores for different diets range between 0-80 points. It is evidenced from these studies that poor diet elevates tendencies towards some diseases including obesity and diabetes besides different varieties of cancer.
