ANDY Gemao leads the Gilas Pilipinas Youth squad that will play in the FIBA U18 Asia Cup set September 2-9 in Amman, Jordan. The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) announced the final roster headlined by the former NCAA Finals MVP and composed mostly of holdovers from the Batang Gilas team that saw action in the SEABA qualifiers last July. Kurl Figueroa and Louis Allen Perez were the additions from the squad, taking over the spot of Stephen Hans Castillejos and Justin Hunter. Also in the roster are Wilhalm Cabonilas, Joaqui Ludovice, Marc Daniel Burgos, Nicolash Lorenzo, John Earl Medina, Charles Esteban, Carl Manding, Jericho Santos, and Mark Esperanza. The Philippines will begin group play with a match-up against Southeast Asian neighbor Indonesia on September 2. It will resume Group D play with a game against host team Jordan on September 4, and will take on New Zealand on September 6. Four slots to the FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup 2025 in Switzerland are at stake. The top teams in each of the four groups will gain an outright quarterfinal spot, while the second- and third-ranked squads will play a qualification game for the quarterfinals. The Philippines gained a spot in the Asia Cup after ruling the SEABA qualifiers with Gemao finishing with 29 points and 12 rebounds in the title game against Indonesia.
