Are actors today too reliant on CGI and green screens?

Not saying CGI is bad—some movies do it amazingly—but I feel like a lot of actors now don’t get the same kind of hands-on experience as before. Like, imagine trying to act terrified at a tennis ball on a stick instead of an actual monster! Do you think this affects their performances compared to older films where they had more practical effects? Or is this just the natural evolution of filmmaking?
