Trans fats, produced by treating liquid vegetable oils with high pressure, heat, and hydrogen gas using a metal catalyst to solidify them, are extremely unhealthy and have been strongly linked to increased heart disease risk. Thankfully, the FDA banned trans fats starting June 18, 2018, but products made before that date could still be sold until 2020 or 2021. Additionally, foods containing less than 0.5 grams of trans fats per serving can still be labeled as having 0 grams.
