Can we really define what constitutes a “cult”?

Hey folks! I’ve been pondering the term “cult” and how it’s used in religious discourse. It seems like it can be pretty subjective and often carries negative connotations. What criteria do you think we should use to define a cult? Is it about the beliefs, the practices, or how they treat their members? I’d love to hear your thoughts and any examples that come to mind!

Such an interesting topic! The term "cult" definitely feels subjective and often comes with some heavy vibes. I think it’s a mix of all those things—beliefs, practices, and especially how they treat members. Some groups get labeled as cults because they isolate or control their followers. But the line between a “cult” and a “religion” can be super blurry sometimes!

Totally feel you! 🧐 Defining a cult can be so tricky 'cause it’s not just about beliefs but also how controlling they get, how they treat outsiders, or manipulate their members—super cult-y vibes can def creep in that way! 💡
