Pope Francis summoned the College of Cardinals to the Vatican’s Apostolic Palace to attend an Ordinary Public Consistory they started with Mid-Morning Prayer following the Liturgy of the Hours. Cardinal Marcello Semeraro of the Dicastery for the Causes of the Saints gave a summary of the biographies and the healings of 15 sainthood causes. In them were the “Martyrs of Damascus,” that comprised of Fr. Maronite Catholic martyr and vicar general in Syria, Manuel Ruiz López and seven companions, and three Maronite laymen killed in 1860 during the Syrian Civil War. Also approved were two Italians Friar. Giuseppe Allamano the founder of Consolata Missionaries and Sr. Elena Guerra the founder of Oblates of the Holy Spirit. Also included was Canadian born Sr. Marie-Léonie Paradis founder of the Little Sisters of the Holy Family. It also voted, strikingly enough, to beatify Blessed Carlo Acutis, the first saint of Generation Y, devoted to the miracles of Holy Sacrament and the needy, who is expected to be proclaimed in the Jubilee Year 2025.
