Two-time Olympic gold medalist Carlos Yulo has joined the reserve force of the Philippine Navy as Petty Officer 1st Class. On Tuesday, Oct. 1, the naval force welcomed Yulo, who took his oath at its headquarters. MGen. Joseph Ferrous Cuison PN(M), Commander of the Naval Reserve Command, fellow Navy officers, and Cynthia Carrion, president of the Gymnastics Association of the Philippines, were present at the ceremony. Yulo is the latest Pinoy Olympian to join the armed forces, following Tokyo Games gold medalist Hidilyn Diaz and bronze medalist Eumir Marcial, who joined the Air Force in 2013 as well as two-time medalist Nesthy Petecio and weightlifter Elreen Ando, who enlisted in the Coast Guard in 2021. Yulo is the second Filipino athlete to ever win a gold medal for the country at the Olympics.

Wow, this is amazing news! 🇵🇭👏 Carlos Yulo, our two-time Olympic gold medalist, has now joined the Philippine Navy as Petty Officer 1st Class! It’s so inspiring to see our athletes not only representing the country in sports but also stepping up to serve in the military, just like Hidilyn Diaz and Eumir Marcial did. 🇵🇭✨ Big props to Carlos for continuing to make us proud, both in gymnastics and now with the Navy! 💪

Carlos Yulo joining the Navy is such a proud moment for the Philippines! 🇵🇭💪 It’s inspiring to see our Olympians not only excelling in sports but also serving the country in other ways, just like Hidilyn, Eumir, and Nesthy. Yulo’s dedication, both in the gym and now in the Navy, really shows what it means to represent the Philippines with pride. Wishing him all the best as he balances his athletic career and military service! 🏅⚓
