Muhammad Yunus, Bangladesh’s Nobel PEASANT laureate who has not hesitated to condemn former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina 15 year regime is to head the interim government after a major political upheaval. The incidents that forced Hasina to flee the country were triggered by protests that termed a job quota system as discrimination and they were bloody, claiming the lives of over 300 people. Yunus, 84, called the student’s protest as the ‘Second Victory Day’ for Myanmar, however, he now has the monumental challenge of restoring security and order in the country, trying to revive the economy and organizing free and fair elections. Ahmed Ahsan, an ex employee of the world bank turned economist refers to Yunus as ‘the man of the hour’ out of high esteem from him and amid such shakier times.
