Filipino gymnast Carlos Yulo, who made history by winning two gold medals at the Paris 2024 Olympics, has received a Chery Tiggo 7 Pro SUV from Chery Auto Philippines. In a news release on Thursday, the automaker said it turned over the brand-new vehicle to Yulo, along with three years' free standard preventive maintenance service, three years' free roadside assistance, five years' (or 150,000 kms, whichever comes first) bumper to bumper warranty, and a 10-year engine warranty. Moreover, it said, Yulo will receive free lifetime oil change and vehicle safety check-ups. Earlier, business tycoon Manuel Pangilinan announced a P10-million cash reward for Yulo and P2 million each for boxers Aira Villegas and Nesthy Petecio, who each brought home an Olympic bronze medal. As mandated by Republic Act 10699 signed in 2015, medalists in individual events shall receive a cash incentive depending on their rankings. For a gold medal, the incentive is set at P10,000,000 while it is P5,000,000 for a silver medal and P2,000,000 for a bronze. The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR), in accordance with its mandate, has said it would grant Yulo a P20-million reward for winning two Olympic gold medals. President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. recently doubled the cash rewards given to Yulo, Villegas, and Petecio following their success in the 2024 Paris Olympics.
