Sailboats in Chicago are preparing for the annual Chicago Yacht Club’s Race to Mackinac readying on Friday and the Cruising Division racing on Friday afternoon and the Racing Division on Saturday. Of the nine members of the team that will be racing on the Moxie this year, all of them are women with the main agenda being to encourage other females to aspire to sail. Indeed, there are 250 boats of all types and sizes for the 115th edition that will start at Navy Pier, cross Lake Michigan and Lake Huron to get to Mackinac Island. Race committee’s meteorological predictions are good winds in order for the race to take less time though crews should pack for a rainy day. The latest speeds that have been recorded on the boats are expected to bring the spirit of Racing Division to its best by taking nearly 25 hours to cover the 300 mile distance.
