Mark Mancina, the composer for Moana 2, recently addressed the absence of Lin-Manuel Miranda in the sequel, explaining that it would have felt "oversaturated" if Miranda had worked on both Moana 2 and Mufasa: The Lion King. Mancina, who co-wrote Moana with Miranda, applauded his fellow Grammy-winning co-writer’s take on Mufasa even if he hasn’t fully watched the finished product. He said that he looks forward to the songs and described them as great and powerful hits adding that the audience will love them. Of course, there is no ‘I just wanna live a big life, daddy’ moment in Mufasa but the songs are amazing anyway and will really fit the film beautifully.

Mark Mancina’s take is so insightful! I love how he acknowledges Lin-Manuel Miranda’s incredible talent while also recognizing the importance of giving each project its unique musical identity. It’s great to hear that Mancina is excited about Mufasa’s music even without being deeply involved. I can’t wait to see how the new songs shape the movie’s tone—any guesses on which ‘great and powerful hits’ he’s referring to?
