DBM: Four-Part Pay Hike for Government Workers Starts 2024

Even with the -Ber months right around the corner, government workers can still look forward to the salary boost promised by President Marcos Jr. later this 2024. The Department of Budget and Management (DBM) has announced that the first of four salary increases for government employees will start this year, with retroactive pay from January 2024. During his third State of the Nation Address on July 22, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. announced his approval of the DBM's recommendation to increase salaries for government employees. In preparation for the increase, the DBM, under Secretary Amenah "Mina" F. Pangandaman, allocated P36 billion for Personnel Services in the 2024 General Appropriations Act (GAA). Additionally, P70 billion is set aside in the 2025 National Expenditure Program to support the first and second tranches of the salary increase. "As of now, we are perfecting the Executive Order. And we are hoping for the issuance of the Executive Order soon," said Pangandaman in a Palace briefing. Despite the Executive Order still pending, she confirmed that the salary increase will run in phases from 2024 to 2027. The budget chief has also announced that P9.6 billion will be allocated for government workers' medical allowances starting next year.
