All clownfish are born male, but they become female when they grow older. 
In a group of male clownfish, there's one dominant female and one dominant male. Once the female dies, the dominant male will stand as the female. 
The dominant male has functioning testest and some latent cells that can turn into ovaries under the right conditions.
