Do fancy salts actually make a difference, or am I just being scammed?

So I was at the store and saw all these bougie salts—Himalayan pink, black lava, smoked sea salt, and even one with gold flakes (???). I grabbed a small jar of flaky Maldon salt, and now I’m wondering… does this actually do anything for the flavor, or am I just falling for good marketing? Anyone swear by a certain type of salt, or is regular table salt just as good?
