Do fancy salts really make a difference, or am I being scammed?

I see all these food people raving about Himalayan pink salt, black lava salt, and even some that are, like, smoked over ancient wood or whatever. But does it actually make a difference in taste? Or is this just one of those overpriced food gimmicks? Who here swears by their salt choice?
