Did you know that beneath the Earth's surface, there’s a layer of rock called the mantle transition zone that holds vast amounts of water locked in a mineral called ringwoodite? This water isn't in liquid form but is trapped within the crystal structure of the mineral, potentially containing as much water as all the world’s oceans combined! This discovery suggests that our planet’s interior water cycle is far more complex and extensive than previously thought.
