The European Union has filed another complaint against Microsoft stating that it has violated antitrust laws by pre-installing Teams in Office and Microsoft 365 which can attract a penalty of nearly 10% of its global revenue in fines. This is similar to another complaint levelled against Apple under the EU’s digital markets law. The current EU investigation , which Slack initiated in January 2020 , claims that Microsoft’s bundling freezes competition and grants Teams an upper hand. Even though Microsoft has recently decided to unbundle Teams in Europe and internationally, the EU finds that more adjustments are necessary to make the playing field. Microsoft has vowed to work on the issue while Salesforce the owner of Slack has welcomed the decision of the Commission as a victory for user preference.
