Gabriela Women's Partylist Rep. Arlene Brosas announced her intention to run as senator in the 2025 midterm elections to push for more comprehensive legislation that would protect women and children. "Alam ko po, panahon na para lumaban tayo ng tunay na boses at tunay na pagbabago sa Senado... Ang mga namumuno sa atin walang pakialam at pansariling interes lamang ang kanilang ginagawa at kanya kanya silang bangayan (It's time for us to fight for our own voices and for real change in the Senate... Our current leaders only have their own interests to protect and they also fight each other)," Brosas said during her nomination on Tuesday. Brosas, who will be running under the Makabayan bloc, said she would be supported mainly by women from civil organizations, marginalized sectors, youth, and even the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender) community. Former Gabriela representative Emerenciana "Emmy" de Jesus believes that there should be more "alternative voices" in the Senate, which only Brosas and the entire Makabayan Senate slate could provide. "Ang pagtakbo sa senado ng Makabayan ay isang magandang lunsaran para pag usapan yung ano ba dapat na agenda... Ang bottomline namin, para kanino ba ang paglilingkod? (The run of the Makabayan bloc in the Senate is a good launching point for our agenda... Our bottomline is that, whom should we serve)," de Jesus told The Times in an interview. Brosas is the second member of the Makabayan bloc to announce her intention to run in the Senate after ACT Teachers Rep. France Castro.

It's inspiring to see Rep. Arlene Brosas stepping up to run for the Senate and advocate for women's and children's rights. Her focus on real change and representing marginalized communities is so important. The support from women, youth, and the LGBT community shows the broad base of her campaign. Wishing her the best of luck! 🌟💪👩‍👧‍👦🏳️‍🌈
