HDFC Bank Q1: Net Profit Up 35%, Net NPAs Double

HDFC Bank reported a 35.33% rise in standalone net profit for the first quarter of the financial year 2023-24, reaching ₹16,174.75 crore from ₹11,951.77 crore last year. The interest earned grew by 50.31% to ₹73,033.14 crore, and income from investments increased by 40.76% to ₹12,543.82 crore. Other income also saw a 15.58% rise to ₹10,668.11 crore. Overall, the bank's total income surged by 44.77% to ₹83,701.25 crore. However, operating expenses went up by 18.23% to ₹16,620.61 crore, and total expenditure increased by 53.2% to ₹59,816.61 crore. The bank's gross NPAs rose significantly by 73.23% to ₹33,025.69 crore, while net NPAs nearly doubled to ₹9,508.44 crore. Despite these results, HDFC Bank's shares fell by 0.46% to ₹1607.10 on the Bombay Stock Exchange on June 19. 📈
