The Milky Way or our home galaxy is 90 percent dark matter therefore you can imagine how large it might be. We cannot easily observe the dark matter but it has a strong influence as to how the galaxy operates. The other 10% is the ‘normal’ or the ‘obvious’ part, that we usually perceive with our eyes, such as stars, planets, and other celestial bodies. And due to that plenty of dark matter there is halo around the galaxy. According to the simulations if there was no dark matter the stars in the galaxy move much slower than they ought to. Pretty wild, right?
