🚫 Hippos Can't Swim!

Hippos can't swim because their bones are so big and dense that they’re almost not buoyant at all. Instead of swimming, they sort of gallop slowly along the riverbed or sea floor. Amazingly, they can even sleep underwater! Thanks to a natural reflex, they bob up to breathe and then sink back down without waking up. 🦛💤

What? I always thought hippos were good swimmers. I guess I was wrong. It would be amazing to see how hippos really move around in the water in person. 🦛🌊

I totally get that—hippos moving underwater does sound like a wild spectacle! It’s super cool to see how nature’s quirks always surprise us. 🦛
