The government of the United States of America demanded the construction of the umbrella definition for long COVID which was introduced last week by the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM).

The NASEM consensus definition is: Long COVID (LC) is defined as an Infection-associated Chronic Condition (IACC) that occurs following COVID-19 SARS-CoV-2 infection and is lasting for at least 3 months in a continuous, relapsing and remitting or progressive functional capacity of one or more organ systems.

According to the definition released last week, the US Census Bureau, and National Centre for Health Statistics Household Pulse Survey Trusted Source, out of the 53 Million adults in the United States, 17. 9% have reported long COVID, and 6. 6% are still suffering from it as of the dates between March 5 to April 1 of the current year.

Defining 'Long COVID' could improve diagnosis and care, but clarity and consensus are crucial. 🩺🔍
