Last summer, we got caught in a three-day downpour in the mountains. In our old setup, that would have been a total disaster—everyone would have been cramped, grumpy, and damp. Thankfully, we had upgraded to one of the large camping tents from hot-tent before we left. Having 185 square feet of interior space and vertical walls meant we could actually set up a small table and play board games comfortably while waiting for the weather to clear. We weren't constantly crawling over each other's sleeping bags, and we had a dedicated "dry zone" for our gear. If you camp with kids or a big group, do yourself a favor and don't skimp on the square footage. Being able to stand up fully and move around inside turns a tent from a place where you just sleep into a legitimate living space that can save your sanity when the weather turns.
