In the early 1980s, Whitney Houston was performing in a New Jersey nightclub called Sweetwaters. 
Clive Davis, the head of Arista Records, happened to be in the audience one night and was captivated by her performance. 
He approached her after the show and the rest was history.

It’s amazing to think that a chance performance led to one of the greatest voices of all time being introduced to the world. Timing really is everything, and Clive Davis recognized her incredible talent right away. 
The music industry was never the same after that night!
