The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) on Wednesday reported an increased seismic activity in Kanlaon Volcano as it logged 90 volcanic earthquakes in the last 24 hours. PHIVOLCS said that the volcanic earthquakes were recorded between 3 p.m. of Tuesday, July 2 and 12 p.m. of Wednesday, July 3. "Most of these earthquakes were generated within a depth of 20 kilometers beneath the southeastern sector of the edifice and consist of five (5) volcano-tectonic events that are produced by rock fracturing and eighty-five (85) weak low-frequency events that indicate the movement of volcanic fluids," PHIVOLCS said. It added "volcanic sulfur dioxide (SO2) gas emission from the summit crater has been persistently elevated since the 03 June 2024 eruption." Further, the PHIVOLCS said that the magmatic processes beneath the volcano “may be driving current unrest, causing increased volcanic earthquake activity, persistently high concentrations of volcanic gas emission and swelling of the edifice.” Alert Level 2, or a state of unrest that could eventually lead to explosive eruptions, remains over Kanlaon. Entry into the volcano's four-kilometer permanent danger zone remained prohibited. Flying of aircraft close to the volcano is also barred. Nearby residents living along rivers are also advised to take extra caution during heavy rains due to possible lahar flows

Stay informed keep an eye on updates from PHIVOLCS for the latest information. Follow evacuation plans if you live in an area at risk, be familiar with the evacuation plans and be prepared to follow them if necessary.

Wow, I didn't know Kanlaon Volcano was showing more activity. I think it's important to stay informed, though let's hope it doesn't lead to anything serious. 🌋🤞
