Microsoft researchers revealed that Iranian government-linked hackers attempted to breach the account of a high-ranking U.S. presidential campaign official in June, following an earlier successful hack of a county-level U.S. official. These efforts are part of Iran's increasing attempts to influence the upcoming U.S. presidential election, though Iran denies any interference, stating its cyber capabilities are defensive. The hackers also set up fake news sites targeting U.S. voters across the political spectrum. Despite these attacks, the breaches were limited, and targets were notified.
