I've been working from home for the past year and I barely drive my car anymore, maybe just a quick trip to the supermarket once or twice a week and the occasional drive to drop the kids off at school. I've noticed that my battery seems to be struggling lately and I'm wondering if this lack of use is actually the problem. I've heard that car batteries need to be driven for a reasonable distance to get fully recharged after starting the engine, because the starter motor draws a huge amount of power and it takes a while for the alternator to put that charge back. If I'm only doing short journeys, the battery might not be getting enough time to recharge properly, which leads to it slowly losing capacity over time. I'm also wondering if the extreme heat here makes this worse because the battery is already under stress from the high temperatures. I've been looking at getting a battery charger or maintainer to keep it topped up when the car is parked for long periods, but I'm not sure which type to buy or whether it's even necessary for a car that's driven a few times a week. I found a site called https://batteryzoneuae.com that has a good selection of batteries and accessories, but I'm not sure if I need a new battery or just a better charging routine. Has anyone here dealt with battery issues from doing mostly short trips and found a solution that works?
