The Japan Meteorological Agency has pointed out the possibility of an increase of the intensity of a major earthquake along the Nankai Trough where fatal quakes and tsunamis have frequently occurred. As much as the forthcoming megaquake likelihood is above average, the time it will happen still remains unknown. Some people mentioned this situation should not be considered an emergency while at the same time emphasizing the possible effects, such as high mortality rates and sizable losses.
