50-year-old Hiroyuki Nagashima, former country manager of Aeon Plus in Myanmar and 10 other Japanese, were arrested by the junta for rice price control act violations; Hiroshi Kasamatsu, a 53-year-old senior official of AEON Co. ’s joint venture in Myanmar. Aeon Company responded to the detention of Kasamatsu, an employee of Aeon Orange Company, and admitted to having apprehended the latter for theft The firm vowed to cooperate with the local government but requested the assistance of the Japanese Embassy in Myanmar. The junta accused Kasamatsu and the detained Myanmar nationals of overcharging, selling rice at much higher prices, by 50% to 70%, to the prices fixed and subsidized by the government.
