Lightning can actually turn sand into glass!

When lightning strikes sand, the intense heat can instantly melt the silica (a major component of sand) which then cools rapidly, forming a glassy substance called fulgurite. These "fossilized lightning bolts" are often hollow tubes and can branch out in fascinating shapes, mimicking the path of the lightning strike.

Have you ever seen fulgurite in person? Where might you be most likely to find it?
