The Philippines particularly the city of Manila suffered a great peril during the Second World War particularly during the battle of Manila. In more than a month of occupation, Japanese forces perpetrated appalling acts of horror which actually consisted of massacres and rape and also burning of homes and other forms of robbery. Rocket and artillery attacks by Americans devastated the city and it turned into bitter house to house fighting. The outcome was the loss of so many Filipino lives, the number ranging between one hundred thousand and five hundred thousand where many perished for the period of four weeks only. This makes Manila the second most devastated allied capital of the war only next to Warsaw Germany and Soviet Union’s invasion where virtually the whole city was razed to the ground by the super and fire bombs of the Nazi and later the Soviet invasion whereby hundreds of thousands lost their lives in a failed uprising in 1944. 😢🏙️
