Marshmallow Root (Althaea officinalis) is a plant. It's a perennial herb native to Europe and Western Asia and is part of the Malvaceae family, which also includes hibiscus and hollyhock. The root of the marshmallow plant has been traditionally used in herbal medicine for its medicinal properties, particularly for its mucilaginous content, which has soothing and healing effects on the mucous membranes of the respiratory, digestive, and urinary systems.

At single glance, I thought that the topic is about marshmallow - the soft, sweet and chewy food that we eat but it's actually a plant. I just hope that we have this kind of plant here in my hometown so I could try steep them to soothe my itchy throat right now.
