MrBeast, YouTube's biggest star and a philanthropic force with nearly unrivalled influence among young audiences, acknowledged Wednesday (Jul 31) that he used “inappropriate language” in his early online days, as numerous controversies bubbled up around him and a former collaborator.

MrBeast, whose real name is Jimmy Donaldson, and his reported US$700 million (S$935 million) empire have come under new fire in recent weeks after accusations of past racist comments by Donaldson surfaced along with allegations that a longtime colleague made inappropriate sexual comments to minors.

It's good to see MrBeast addressing his past mistakes, but it's crucial to acknowledge the broader context of these issues. Accountability is important for anyone with such significant influence, especially when past actions come into the spotlight. Hopefully, this leads to a positive change and a focus on addressing serious concerns responsibly
