NASA has issued a warning about asteroid 2024 NB2, a 100-foot rock hurtling toward Earth at 47,921 kilometers per hour, with a close flyby expected on Saturday, July 13. Although the asteroid will come within 2,390,000 miles (3,850,000 kilometers) of Earth—considered a safe distance in astronomical terms—scientists do not view it as an immediate threat. Discovered by the Catalina Sky Survey in Tucson, Arizona, and closely monitored by NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Southern California, the asteroid is also being tracked by the Goldstone Solar System Radar, which provides detailed information on its size, orbit, and speed.
