Packers cut kicker Anders Carlson after shaky season

Anders Carlson will not get a chance to make up for his final kick last season, the missed 41-yard field goal attempt that would have given the Green Bay Packers a seven-point lead late in their 24-21 playoff loss to the San Francisco 49ers. The team cut Carlson on Tuesday, a source told ESPN, as they began the process of trimming their roster. All teams must be down to no more than 53 players by 4 p.m. ET on Tuesday. A sixth-round pick last year and the brother of Las Vegas Raiders kicker Daniel Carlson, the younger Carlson missed 13 total kicks last season (including extra points and field goals) in 19 regular-season and playoff games combined. His regular-season field goal rate of 81.8% ranked 25th among regular kickers last season. In all, he was 82.9% on field goals including playoffs and 85.4% on extra points. "He's got to improve," Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst said after last season.

Tough break for Anders Carlson—he won’t get another shot to make up for that missed 41-yard field goal in the playoff game against the 49ers. The Packers cut him this week as they trim their roster down to 53 players. Last season was rough for him with 13 missed kicks across regular and playoff games. Even though he’s got a strong kicker pedigree (his brother’s in the NFL too!), it just wasn’t enough to keep him on the team. Hope he bounces back stronger wherever he lands! ⚽
