This month, PMNCH is pleased to focus on the CSA Initiative for functional push which is an action plan to catalyse governments, civil society, academic institutions and development partners to address child mortality and attain SDG indicator 3. Achievement of targets set forth on number 2 of the sustainable development goals which aims at preventing newborn and child deaths by the year 2030.

The Ministry of Health in Sierra Leone, in partnership with the Child Health Task Force, disclosed the intention to start the CSA program in April, 2023. Their key participants comprise the Secretariat of the Child Health Task Force, the GFF, Save the Children, the UNICEF, USAID, as well as WHO. It is undertaken in a strategic and efficient way that ensures the right message gets to the most affected children who are at the risk of being killed by three major diseases; pneumonia, diarrhea and malaria. It targets 59 high-burden countries across the globe, 45 of which are in Africa, and which need an increase in efforts to meet the SDG3 2030 goal of reducing child mortality, and supports primary health care, institutions, and communities to identify, address, and treat the underlying causes of child mortality. Discussing coordination, it addresses needed resources, partnerships relying on the continuum from pre-pregnancy to childhood and focuses on a renewed vision for children’s health, nutrition, and survival.

Hey, that CSA Initiative sounds like a game-changer for fighting child mortality! Kudos to Sierra Leone and all the partners for stepping up. It's awesome to see such a strong collaboration aiming to save kids' lives. Thanks for sharing this! 🤗
