Powdery, spotty residue on supermarket apples

I bought some Cosmic Crisps today at my local Winco. I rinsed them well, and put them in the crisper. I went back less than a half hour later to retrieve an orange, and discovered the apples had powdery looking, bright white spotty areas on them. I’ve never, ever seen this. I called the grocer to ket them know. I can have a refund with my receipt, but more to the point, what could this be? I googled and saw nothing in an image search that resembles what I have.

Any ideas?

That’s odd! It could be some kind of residue or a reaction to the rinse. A refund is a good idea, but you might want to mention it to the produce manager too, just in case.
