A rare polar bear was fatally shot by police on Thursday afternoon in a remote village in the northwest of Iceland. The incident happened after police regarded it as a threat.
According to Westfjords Police Chief Helgi Jensson, the polar bear was close to a summer house where an old woman resides. The old woman locked herself upstairs while the bear searched through her garbage.
