Salt Used to be a Luxury

Back in ancient times, salt was incredibly valuable—so much so that it was often used as currency or even as part of a salary. 🧂 People needed it not just for flavor, but also to preserve food, which made it a precious resource. That’s actually where the word “salary” comes from—it’s linked to “sal,” the Latin word for salt! Hard to believe something so common today was once worth its weight in gold.
