Scientists recently found a plant in Malaysia's rainforests, which they call "Thismia malayana". It is a new species that survives by getting nutrients from underground fungi.
With that, it belongs to a group of plants known as mycoheterotrophs. Unlike most plants, they don't perform photosynthesis and act as parasites that steal carbon resources from fungi on their roots.
