A shirtless man climbing the Eiffel Tower in Paris caused a major security scare and mass evacuations just hours before the closing ceremony of the Paris Olympics. The man, who was spotted scaling the iconic 1,083-foot structure near the Olympic rings, triggered a swift police response around 3 p.m., leading to temporary closures and evacuations. The authorities, already on high alert, had to clear the area as the closing ceremony is set to begin at 9 p.m. The Eiffel Tower, which was a key feature of the opening ceremony with Celine Dion performing, will not be part of the closing event at Stade de France. More than 30,000 police officers are deployed across Paris for security, with 3,000 specifically around the stadium.
