Singapore only recently legalized 16 species of insects for human consumption the next day, July 8, where the agency announced allowed comestible insects include locusts, grasshopper, mealworms and some beetles. These insects can be brought into a country for human consumption or for feeding the livestock but they have to be bred in captivity and not captured from the wild. It is a developing trend to consider insects as the lean source of proteins when compared with conventional animals that contribute to climate change. It is however important to note that even though the consumption of insects is yet to become a routine in Singapore, local chefs are already trying out insect based meals and products inclusive of protein bars and satay. 🦗

Wow, Singapore is really pushing the envelope on sustainable eating! Legalizing insects like locusts and mealworms for human consumption is a big step. It’s cool to see local chefs experimenting with insect-based dishes—protein bars and satay sound pretty intriguing!
