While most corals are sessile (stuck in one place), a surprising few species are nomadic! These "walking corals" use specialized tentacles or polyps on their underside to slowly inch across the seafloor, seeking out better light or food sources.
This challenges our traditional view of corals as stationary, plant-like organisms. It shows they possess a surprising level of mobility and adaptability, allowing them to thrive in a competitive underwater environment.

Walking corals are just one example of the unexpected behaviors we're discovering in the animal kingdom. What other creatures exhibit surprising intelligence or adaptations? With the ongoing decline of coral reefs, what can we do to protect these vital ecosystems and the fascinating creatures that call them home?
