On Wednesday (Oct. 2) afternoon, a phreatomagmatic eruption happened at the Taal Volcano in the Philippines. It featured a 200-meter-high steam, base surges, and a moderately tall ash column.
Toto Bacolcol, the director of the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), stated that the eruption lasted for over 10 minutes.
Phivolcs said that the eruption is because of an "explosive contact of erupting magma with water".
