Jared Isaacman, a tech billionaire and the commander of the SpaceX Polaris Dawn mission, successfully returned to Earth on Sunday, September 15, 2024, after conducting the first-ever private spacewalk.
The mission, which launched on Thursday, September 12, also set a new altitude record for human spaceflight, surpassing the International Space Station and Hubble Telescope.
Isaacman and his crew of four spent five days in orbit, conducting a series of experiments and tests to gather data for future space missions.
The spacewalk, which took place on Saturday, September 14, saw Isaacman and SpaceX engineer Scott Poteet venture outside the Dragon capsule to test new spacesuits and conduct maintenance on the spacecraft.
